My Top 6 Favorite Brunch (not breakfast!) Dishes in Columbus
Let’s get something straight here. Breakfast isn’t brunch. Brunch is an experience and breakfast is a necessity. Brunch is sitting around a table with your friends, chatting about the previous evening’s shenanigans in an attempt to forget the Sunday scaries and the looming responsibilities of the coming week. Throw in a little sunshine and a breezy patio with a great view for people watching? Wooooo baby. Talk dirty to me.
Because time is valuable and I know you all just want the brunch facts straight up, here’s the list of my Top 6 favorite brunch dishes in Columbus. Try not to lick your computer screen, k?
#1 Brunch Dish: Chilaquiles at Rockmill Tavern
For $11.00, you’re blessed with a bowl filled to the rim of chorizo, tortilla chips, urfa mayo, salsa verde, fried egg, and ricotta salata. Not only is this the best chilaquiles I’ve had in Columbus, but quite possibly ever.
#2 Brunch Dish: Ham and Brie Croissant Sandwich at Hoof Hearted Brewery & Kitchen
If you’ve never been to Hoof Hearted Brewery & Kitchen (or think you’re not hipster enough to make an appearance) I urge you to step outside of your geographical comfort zone and hit up Italian Village for one of the most underrated brunch menus in the city. Although a “ham and brie sandwich” wouldn’t technically be considered a brunch menu item, I use it as an excuse to inhale a considerable amount of cheese in a short period of time. Oh, and the garlic thyme aoili dabbled on the side of the board? You’ll be picking up your plate and licking it off by the end of the meal. I guarantee it.
#3 Brunch Dish: Power Bowl at Alchemy Juice Cafe
This power “bowl” (more like large plate) is packed full of ancient grains, hemp pesto, kalebouli, hummus, tri kale potato hash, bulgarian feta, organic purple kraut, hazelnuts, and micro greens. Spend the extra $2 to add a poached egg and bask in the glory that is this brunch dish. Yet another plate I’ll admit to licking clean! Note: This dish is only available at the Grandview Alchemy location.
#4 Brunch Dish: Green Eggs and Ham at The Market Italian Village
This post is turning into my love letter for the brunch scene in Italian Village, apparently. It’s no surprise that the same brains behind the menu at Alchemy are serving up high quality brunch dishes at The Market Italian Village every weekend as well. Details of the chaos: two pieces of focaccia stuffed under a mountain of two poached eggs, leoncini ham, arugula, hollandaise, crispy capers. I subbed smoked salmon for an extra $2 because hello, smoked salmon!
#5 Brunch Dish: The Breakfast Pizza at Forno
I’m going to take a wild guess and say that 3/4th’s of you reading this post have already heard of/tried the breakfast pizza at Forno, so you’re not hearing anything new. But with a breakfast pizza this good, it deserves to be on any and every “best of brunch” lists out there! What makes it so good? My favorite part is the crispy brussel sprouts nestled in the drippy yolk of the eggs cracked across the top of the slices. Can’t beat that.
#6 Brunch Dish: Anything at Wolf’s Ridge Brewing
Here’s the thing about brunch Wolf’s Ridge Brewing – it’s amazing. Any dish I’ve ever had, any side, any coffee. Fantastic. Any time a friend/follower/etc reaches out to me about a “nice place to take their visiting family members for brunch in Columbus”, I suggest Wolf’s Ridge. The hard thing about their menus is that as soon as you fall in love with something (ehem, me and this lil piece of brioche pictured below), it’s gone. They have seasonal menus and almost always wipe out 75% of their current selection of dishes for new. So I’ll tell you a little about the last dish I had…
WRB took the softest piece of brioche, slathered it in a homemade bacon onion jam (to freaking die for) and buried a poached egg under their perfectly dressed frisée salad and topped it with shredded goat cheese. I died and went to heaven that day. It was nice knowing you all. Oh, and that bowl in the background? Coffee sugar donuts topped with a coffee whipped cream. Even the coffee haters at the table loved them. 🙂
Thanks for reading, and maybe I’ll catch you at one of my favorite brunch restaurants in Columbus soon!
